My research focuses on understanding how organisms make decisions, and how decision-making is shaped by ecology and evolution. I am particularly interested in understanding how animals perceive and process stimuli to recognize and respond to features of their environment.

I am currently a Neukom Fellow at Dartmouth College, where I hold a joint-appointment in Psychological and Brain Sciences and in Biology.  I am collaborating with Thalia Wheatley (PBS) and Hannah ter Hofstede (Bio) to study decision-making using approaches from behavioral biology, neurobiology, and mathematical modeling.

My research has spanned a number of taxa including crickets, katydids, frogs, bats, and humans. A morning person by nature, I keep insisting that someday I'm going to study something that is not nocturnal...but the things that go bump in the night are just so cool!
